Coordination Problems

Most human suffering comes not from disagreement but from agreement without a mechanism — everyone wants the same outcome but can't get there because no one can move first without others moving simultaneously. The deepest insight is that coordination problems are information problems in disguise: they persist not because solutions don't exist, but because common knowledge (everyone knows that everyone knows) is extraordinarily hard to establish. This is why cheap talk fails but costly signals, focal points, and institutions work.
